Superintendent John Edward Pierre is the pastor of Living Witness Church of God in Christ, Inc. He ascended to the pastoral ship of Living Witness and Superintendent of District #5, now Lighting The Way District, in 1999 upon the demise of the church’s founding Pastor and District Superintendent Louis B. Harrell, Sr.

Supt. Pierre is a product of the public school system, a graduate of George Washington Carver Senior High School. He attended Delgado Junior College, Southern University at New Orleans, St. Mary’s Dominican College, and Union Baptist Theological Seminary. He served honorably in the United States Army, and served a tour of duty in the Republic of South Vietnam. Supt. Pierre is married to Missionary Paulette Jordan Pierre, his childhood sweetheart, for 23years. They have six children and ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Under the leadership of Supt. Pierre, Living Witness Church of God in Christ has been leading the way for many years in reclaiming the central city community in uptown New Orleans along Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard from drug dealers, prostitutes, crime, violence, and urban blight. Pastor Pierre and Living Witness Community Social Service (LWCSS), which is the community development arm of the church, operate several social programs for youths, men, and their families. The flagship program of LWCSS is its long-term, residential substance abuse treatment program for men called Nehemiah Restoration Program; whose mission is to address addiction, introduce them to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and place them back into their homes as head of their households effectively strengthening the family unit.

Pastor Pierre remains very active in the community. He serves on a number of boards in the community including Chairman of Oretha Castle Haley Merchant and Business Assoc., Chaplain on the Central City Economic Opportunity Corporation (CCEOC) Board of Directors, Central City Partnership, Cafe’ Reconcile, Central City Renascence Alliance, Jericho Road, Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana Housing Initiative, and Central City Pastors Partnership. He is a graduate of the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute (NORLI) class of 2005; Pastor Pierre is a core member of the community organizing, consensus building groups Jeremiah, and Common Good. Pastor Pierre also served on the Mayor’s faith based bring New Orleans Home Committee, and Homeless Task Force Committee, as well as many other boards and committees and has received a host of awards and commendations throughout the community through the years of faithful service.
